Caffeine Metabolism in PD
Lower serum caffeine levels may be of diagnostic significance in early Parkinson disease, consistent with epidemiologic data that support the neuro-protective properties of caffeine.

The findings show serum levels of caffeine and metabolites were significantly decreased compared with controls (this was unrelated to total caffeine intake). In addition, serum caffeine levels were significantly decreased in patients with motor complications.
The authors concluded that lower serum caffeine levels may be of diagnostic significance in early Parkinson disease, consistent with epidemiologic data supporting caffeine as neuro-protective.
