A meta-analysis of 16 studies looked at the association between apathy in older individuals with and without incident dementia.1 It turns out that memory clinic patients assigned with a definition of apathy had double the risk for incident dementia.
The importance of this study is that relevant, inexpensive, and easily implementable approaches to treating apathy may influence patients at risk for dementia.
