(New York, NY, July 26, 2022) The annual U.S. News & World Report has ranked NYU Langone Health as the top hospital in New York and No. 3 in the nation. Among the specialties ranked, Neurology and Neurosurgery were ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time.

Building the best neurological and neurosurgical practice did not happen overnight, but was the result of incremental investment to build world-class neurological and neurosurgical services.

“The complexities of the brain require a comprehensive, integrated network of practitioners and researchers to address the needs of patients,” said Steven L. Galetta, MD, the Philip K. Moskowitz, MD Professor and Chair of Neurology at NYU Langone Health. “NYU Langone Health set itself apart by developing leading care teams across 18 divisions within the Department of Neurology, including designated comprehensive care centers in epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. We strive to address every care need and have built a program that produces outstanding patient outcomes.”

NYU Langone’s Department of Neurosurgery is one of the most respected academic programs in the nation and one that can handle any complex case.

“Our patients have access to the best neurosurgeons in the field,” said John G. Golfinos, MD, the Joseph Ransohoff Professor of Neurosurgery and the chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone Health. “In neurosurgery, there is no room for error. To ensure an exceptional outcome, a neurosurgery team requires rigorous training and a depth of experience. People from around the world come to us for healing, and physicians are accustomed to sending us their most challenging cases. We perform complex spinal neurosurgeries routinely in both adults and children, while our Gamma Knife radiosurgery program eliminates brain tumors. Our partnership with Perlmutter Cancer Center to develop a state-of-the-art Brain and Spine Tumor Center has helped patients facing previously untreatable conditions.”
