Parkinson & Movement Disorder Alliance (PMD Alliance) has received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME).

Effective July 24th, 2023 Parkinson & Movement Disorder Alliance (PMD Alliance) has received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME). ACCME’s decision report on PMD Alliance’s application found us to be in full compliance with all criterions, standards, and policies.

ACCME is a nonprofit corporation with the mission to assure and advance quality learning for healthcare professionals that drives improvements in patient care. ACCME sets and enforces standards for CME that aim to drive quality in the medical profession and improve care for patients.

The PMD Alliance Continuing Medical Education Program exists to meet the educational needs of physicians, advance practice providers, and other clinicians who care for patients with movement disorders. The expected outcomes of our program are improvements in the competence of learners as they apply new knowledge, tools, and strategies to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with movement disorders.

Accreditation by ACCME is a mark of excellence that signifies high-quality continuing education for physicians and other healthcare providers. ACCME-accredited providers, such as PMD Alliance, adhere to rigorous standards that ensure that their educational activities are relevant, effective, and free of commercial bias.

Participation in accredited CME helps physicians and other healthcare providers meet requirements for maintenance of licensure, maintenance of certification, credentialing, membership in professional societies, and other professional privileges.

With accredited continuing education, learners can trust that they are advancing their knowledge, skills, and practice to improve health outcomes for their patients and communities.

The application to become an ACCME-accredited provider is a demanding, multi-step, 18-month process that began for PMD Alliance in December 2021.As a new provider, PMD Alliance has been awarded a Provisional Accreditation term of two years in which ACCME will provide support and oversight as we build our capacity and program while demonstrating compliance with accreditation criteria along with the standards for integrity and independence in accredited continuing education.

“By achieving this accreditation, PMD Alliance is poised to better serve the entire Movement Disorder Care & Support Ecosystem©, which ultimately advances the center of the ecosystem, and the core of our mission, people living with movement disorders,” says Andrea Merriam, CEO of PMD Alliance.
